چکیده

Prominent tufa localities along the Provo level (∼14,000 C yr B.P.) shoreline in Pleistocene Lake Bonneville have been characterized in detail. Three types of tufa are recognized: capping tufa, beachrock, and capping tufa over beachrock. Capping tufa and beachrock are end members of a continuum based on variable clastic content. All three types typically occur on headland environments that had stable substrate and little sediment input. Tufa development correlates with bedrock exposure and landform orientation, which in turn are correlated ( ) with the longest 2 R p 0.89 fetch directions in the basin. Tufa also tends to be located at major subbasin divides and in the western portion of the basin. Online enhancements: appendix tables.

Terminal Pleistocene Fish Remains from Homestead Cave, Utah, and Implications for Fish Biogeography in the Bonneville Basin

Eleven fish species were identified from Homestead Cave, Utah. The remains, concentrated in the lowest stratum of the deposit, were accumulated by owls between approximately 11,200 and 10,100 14C yr B.P. and likely represent fish associated with the final die-off of the Lake Bonneville fauna. Four of the species (Salvelinus confluentus, Prosopium abyssicola, Catostomus discobolus, Richardsonius...

Rangewide molecular structuring in the Utah sucker (Catostomus ardens).

The Utah sucker (Catostomus ardens) is endemic to the Bonneville Basin and the upper Snake River drainage in western North America, and is thought to hybridize with the federally endangered June sucker (Chasmistes liorus mictus) in Utah Lake (Bonneville Basin). Here we describe the discovery of a major subdivision in Utah suckers (4.5% mitochondrial sequence divergence) between the ancient Snak...

Morphology and paleoclimatic significance of Pleistocene Lake Bonneville spits

Pleistocene Lake Bonneville of western Utah contains a variety of spits associated with shorelines and other features that formed between 21,000 and 12,000 C yr BP. Field studies in the low-lying mountain ranges of the central portion of Lake Bonneville identified 17 spits of various types. The spits are connected to small mountain ranges and islands, vary in size from 0.02 to 0.5 km, and are c...

Facies Architecture and Sequence Stratigraphy of Fine-Grained Lacustrine Deltas Along the Eastern Margin of Late Pleistocene Lake Bonneville, Northern Utah and Southern Idaho, David R. Lemons and Marjorie A. Chan

This study documents the effects of changing lake level (limnostasy), tectonics, sediment yield, and basin physiography on the facies architecture, sequence stratigraphy, and reservoir quality of three fine-grained deltas deposited along the eastern margin of late Pleistocene Lake Bonneville. Analysis of facies architecture indicates that the Weber and Spanish Fork deltas were strongly wavemodi...
